More Realism (v1) - File Description

You can still get this file but we suggest you have a look at the NEW / UPDATED VERSION first!

Description:
catahoulak9 is back, and he has not come empty handed...after releasing the More Realism (v1) for Earned in Blood, he has followed through and is now releasing it for Road to Hill 30!

Those of you that enjoy playing this mod for Earned in Blood, and wished it was available for RTH30, can now rejoice! If you enjoy 'Road to Hill 30', but are not crazy about the lack of accuracy, or the equally lack of damage inflicted by the weapons will enjoy this mod! It is the opinion of catahoulak9 that reducing or removing the 'sway' of the weapons is not the best way to bring more realism to the game...in fact he believes the sway is needed for realism, insead, he has reduced the 'AimError' code by half, (although the ratios were kept the same) resulting in less random shots.

Another change that is made by this download is the 'Damage_Human' codes; This code was increased, to better reflect the the effects of being/getting shot. In the words of the developer: "Next I raised most of the damage codes to one shot kill levels. Now a .45 caliber round to the face is as ugly as it should be."

If you think these changes will make the game waay to easy, then play with this mod installed, and on the highest difficulty...I bet you will be plesently surprised!

So, what are you waiting for, the download link is a little lower, click it and enjoy Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 in a whole new way!

More Realism (v1) - Readme
Readme File:
Gentleman,

It has never been the sway! Anyone familiar with shooting knows this. The thing I've always found so frustrating about this game is the "Aim Error" and weakened weapons the developers designed into BIA for reasons already covered in the forums. My mod addresses both issues.

First off, I left the weapon sway untouched. This is part of shooting and BIA does a great job of recreating this. If you don't believe me try shooting a few .30-06 rounds from a Garand (no benchrests please) and try to hold those sights on target. What I did change are the AimError and Damage_Human codes. I kept the AimError ratios the same but I reduced them by half. Now all guns are twice as accurate as they were with far less random hits. Just reducing sway does little to nothing if the AimError codes are working against you. Next I raised most of the damage codes to one shot kill levels. Now a .45 caliber round to the face is as ugly as it should be. My goal was not to make BIA easier, just a little more accurate. And please guys before the "Just Learn to Shoot" crowd starts in I think you should try the mod first. I think you will like the results.

And one more thing, if you think it's too easy, play on the highest difficulty levels and try to get through with your little man-in-the-left-hand-corner still green and healthy. You still need to use your squad to make it without getting your a$$ shot up. That will give you a good dose of realism... your head down behind cover and a trustworthy weapon in your shaky hands to defend yourself with. It's just a game so Have Fun!

Catahoulak9

Unfortunately this is not a mutator. This is for BIA RH30 only. You must back up or rename your original C:\Program Files\Ubisoft\Gearbox Software\BrothersInArms\System\gbxInventory.u file and copy my new one in its place. That's it. If you don't like it then just delete it. This is a single player mod only so Keep your old gbxInventory.u to swap back for multiplayer use.

Sorry, no screen shots.

nice mod. great to see the damage and aim error code fixed. but please bring out a version 2 with half that sway removed. i don't care what anyone says, no weapon is that difficult to hold still when trying to take aim. and no weapon has that much sway when you look down the ironsights. 8/10. 2 points deducted because of that annoying sway still left there. please fix this problem. keep up the good work

Thanks a bunch for this mod. I'll be playing with this mod for sure because I like the sway. There is a lot of difference from going out to the range to shoot your favorite weapon and being in combat. I think the sway does bring out the true combat experience.

note: There are a few no sway mods that are really good mods for people who don't like the sway.

Thanks again catahoulak9. You Rock

happynappy,
Thanks for responding. First off, weapons do sway that much if you are breathing hard and I suspect if someone is shooting at you too. This is a great game and Gearbox spent a lot of time and effort in designing BIA to recreate the experience of being a squad leader on the ground in France during D-Day. I think as most agree they wanted something more than a shooter, they wanted to force you to use your trroops to succeed. Unfortunately to do this they built in an aim error factor as well as reducing the damage effects when you hit your target. I found this to be so frustrating I quit playing for a long time. No amount of practice or skill could overcome the randomly generated accuracy outcome. Pale Rider was the first here to radically change these factors. I believe he went too far by removing all the sway and aim error. Load his mod and play for a while and you will see what I mean. Next ya ab came out with his Weapon Accuacy mods trying to increase accuracy by reducing sway but didn't address the aim error factor. With his mod even though the sway was reduced I still found bullets hitting randomly from where the sights were. Also, like Pale Rider, I didn't think you should have to shoot someone several times in the head to kill them. So I made my mod to reflect what I thought was wrong and needed correcting. True weapon accuracy has been dramatically increased by reducing the aim error codes, not by reducing the sway. Like real life marksmanship, you're going to have anticipate when your target is in your sights and fire. By the way, I originally had the sway reduced but found it took the skill of shooting out and made it far less fun and challenging. Give it a chance to work. Good luck and good shooting.

Well it is not hard to hold a gun when you have rested and such, but since in BiA we are running around all the time and there are no time to take a break or another, I think the sway in BiA is quite good.

Second of all, the reason why the sway feels so high is the zoom feature. If the weapons wouldn't have any zoom you barely would notice it actually has any sort of sway.

And the mod itself is nice, but I found the game pretty easy even on authentic difficulty due the fact I could snipe 34 of the enemies off at range.

Good point on the zoom OldGonorrea. Damned ugly name by the way. I think the zoom was to simulate the focus on target when you are looking down the sights. Zoom was not much of an aid when your bullets hit just about anywhere, but now it is kind of a cheat. I did notice the zoom varies on the different weapons. Look at the difference between the Garand and the BAR. I'll look at it tonight. And you're right about getting through the game easier now. You can snipe because there isn't much danger of getting hit and killed yourself. Maybe we should look at raising the damage codes for enemy fire too. For more realism I think if you get shot that ought to be it for you, or at the very least it should effect your ability to move, aim and shoot. Right now it looks like your performance does not change no matter how many times you get hit until you fall over dead. I try and get through with my team and myself still in the green. After all, it's hard to consider getting severely wounded and squad mates dead as winning. For now, if you run the skirmish modes in BIA2 with everything maxed, especially the Accuracy level at 10, you can hardly stick your head up over a rock without getting it shot off. You have to do a lot of suppression and ducking for cover to get anywhere and live. Death comes quick, as it should, when facing automatic weapon fire. I'll look at the zoom and keep experimenting..
